It’s official: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a Disney Plus release date. The latest Marvel movie will finally be shown on the streaming platform February 1, 2023.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released in theaters on November 11, so it’s been two months since its worldwide release. Fortunately, at long last, Marvel has confirmed (Opens in a new tab) It will hit one of the top streaming services next month.
We knew it wasn’t coming to Disney Plus in January, which Disney revealed it wouldn’t be part of its January 2023 release slate. However, now that Marvel has finally given Black Panther 2 an official release date on Disney’s streaming device, , the countdown to its release has begun.
If you’re looking for more news about the Disney Plus debut of Black Panther 2, we’ve got you covered. Below, you can read more about why it took so long for Wakanda Forever to release on Disney Plus, along with other important information about the movie. So what are you waiting for?
What is the Disney Plus release date of Black Panther 2?

As confirmed by Marvel Studios on January 4, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will debut on Disney Plus on February 4.
The movie, which we placed in the top three in our Marvel Phase 4 ranked article, hits theaters in November 2022, and we predicted it would arrive in January 2023. That’s based on what we know about some of the best superhero movies’ Disney Plus releases. However, Marvel proved this wasn’t the case, confirming that it would arrive a month later instead.
Marvel movies are not streamed on the Disney streaming platform immediately after their theatrical release. Each flick has a worldwide exclusivity period of 45 days in cinemas. If Black Panther 2 is released exactly 45 days after November 11th, it was to launch on Monday, December 26th.
Unfortunately, the December 26 launch never happened. Marvel hasn’t released any post-Avengers: Endgame movies on Disney’s streaming device so soon after its theatrical release. The exception to this rule is Black Widow, which received a release day and date in theaters and on Disney Plus in July 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
What’s more, Disney traditionally releases new movies and TV shows on Wednesdays. That changed temporarily when She-Hulk: Attorney at Law debuted on Thursday (August 18). This was due to the spin-off mid-week release of Star Wars TV Andor. Obviously, Marvel and Lucasfilm don’t want their franchises to compete for same-day viewership.
If Black Panther 2 follows Marvel’s traditional Wednesday launch of Disney Plus releases, it’s supposed to release on Wednesday, December 28th, right? No – and eternity holds the key to reason.
Eternals hits theaters on November 5, 2021, but wasn’t available to stream on Disney Plus until January 12, 2022. That’s because Marvel co-released Spider-Man: No Way Home (along with Sony Pictures) in December 2021. In In our view, Marvel didn’t want Disney Plus releasing Eternals to conflict with the theatrical run of No Way Home, as it might distract fans from going to see No Way Home.
Add in the fact that Wakanda Forever continued to make money during the 2022 holiday season and it wasn’t in Marvel’s financial interests to end its theatrical run and release on Disney Plus (for free, remember!) until February 2023.
Is there an end credits scene in Black Panther 2?
Yes, but there’s only one post-credits scene – not two – in Wakanda Forever.
We’ve broken down what this mid-bite means for the Black Panther movie series (and the broader MCU) in Black Panther: The End of Wakanda Forever and its post-credits scene. It takes a deep dive into the movie’s most common spoiler elements, so only follow along if you’ve seen the movie.
What is the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever runtime?
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever runs for 2 hours and 41 minutes. This includes the only post-credits scene and its credits sequence.
Interestingly, this makes Black Panther 2 the second longest running MCU movie of all time. It’s only surpassed by Avengers: Endgame’s three-hour running time, while it’s four minutes longer than the divisive Eternals movie.
