Teixeira v Hill preview and predictions
The first big UFC card to hit Brazil since before the pandemic sees one of the nations fight for the light heavyweight title.
With him reaching the twilight of his career, it’s an opportunity Teixeira is unlikely to miss.
Hill has quickly risen to become a contender, but this fight against an experienced pro with a partisan crowd behind him may have come too soon.
Who is Glover Teixeira?
A mainstay in the upper echelons of the light heavyweight rankings since joining the UFC back in 2012, Minas Gerais-born slugger Glover Teixeira holds the all-time UFC record for most submissions and finishes in the light heavyweight division.
Despite his consistent performance at the weigh-in, it was a long, long road to the 42-year-old becoming the defending champion.
After a disappointing unanimous decision defeat in a title challenge against Jon Jones back in 2014, Teixeira finally got another stab at the belt in 2021 and seized his opportunity in style, choking Jan Bachovic to take the title at UFC 266.
His reign did not last long, however, as the Brazilian lost his crown in his first defense against Jiri Prochazka in June last year.
Who is Jamal Hill?
Rookie contender Jamal Hill has rapidly risen through the ranks since debuting on Dana White’s Contenders in 2019.
The 31-year-old from Chicago is in three straight fights, all with explosive knockouts.
Tall with a great reach, Hill has shown plenty of potential at the champion level, but is undoubtedly tough, while his lack of wrestling skills is a clear weakness.
Latest Odds Teixeira vs. Hill: Who is favorite to win?
Despite the more experienced Teixeira’s status as a former champion and fighting in his home country, the Brazilian comes into this fight as a betting underdog, with his odds hovering around the 11/10 mark, while Hill is pegged as favourite, at 4/6.
Teixeira v. Hill: recent results
Teixeira’s last fight was an unsuccessful first defense of his light heavyweight title in a back-and-forth fight at UFC 275 this past June against Jan Blachowicz that saw the Brazilian lose via rear naked choke in the fifth round.
Hill’s last visit to the Octagon saw him oust former title challenger Thiago Santos last August.
