In Overwatch 2, Doomfist has changed significantly. This monster is not just a menacing DPS hero anymore, it has now been upgraded to a tank.
Unfortunately, these changes have been accompanied by a fist of confusion. Doomfist has radically overhauled his abilities, role, and personality to match the more dynamic battles Blizzard is trying to promote in Overwatch 2. This means the Talon Commander has a higher skill ceiling thanks to his new abilities and roles.
The most agile tank on the list can be quite difficult to handle, but when it comes down to it, the time you spend perfecting Doomfist can pay off well. We’ve put together this guide to try and help you figure out if Doomfist is the right tank for you.
Overwatch 2 Doomfist
Overwatch 2 Doomfist: Story and Background
Akande Ogundimu, also known as Doomfist, is a highly trained fighter and a born leader. Joining Talon after losing his right arm in the Omnic Crisis, Akande quickly rises through the ranks, eventually killing his old boss and former owner of the title “Doomfist”. Now he is determined to plunge the world into a new conflict.
In Overwatch 2, Doomfist’s reasons for spreading violence and chaos are largely unknown. We hope to get to know more about the Talon boss in the next PVE story. However, we can decipher some aspects of Doomfist’s personality from his animated introduction (which you can check out above).
The trailer depicts Doomfist fighting against Overwatch agents, Winston, Tracer, and Genji, after escaping from prison. Throughout the fight, we can hear a monologue by Doomfist playing on her. “Conflict and war are the crucibles in which we evolve,” says Domfist. Every battle makes us stronger. These little snippets are the only clues to Doomfist’s motives and morals we get, and they may point to a twisted kind of forced evolution of the human race.
Overwatch 2 Doomfist: Abilities Breakdown
Primary fire: hand cannon
Describe: Short range weapon with a spread.
In Overwatch 2, Doomfist’s Hand Cannon is a weapon with a projectile effect. This means that the closer you are to your enemy, the more damage he will inflict on him. Deals a total of 20 to 55 damage per shot, with a total of four shots available before reloading.
Some tips and tricks for this weapon:
- You can get a head shot with this gun.
- Hand Cannon reloads automatically.
- Using a melee attack does not interfere with the reload timer.
Ability: Seismic Peace
Describe: He leaped forward and smashed to the ground
This ability provides a movement boost for Doomfists as they can cover 18 meters using this skill. It’s a great way to quickly get into or out of a fight. It also equips the hero with an amazing ability like when Doomfist hits the ground if there are enemy heroes nearby, they will be hit with 50 damage and thrown into the air.
Some tips and tricks for this ability:
- You can cancel this ability by reactivating the ability or activating any other ability.
- Use a Seismic Slam in series with a Rocket Punch to deal some real damage.
Ability: Rocket Punch
Describe: His fist charge allows Doomfist to punch enemies forward and slam them backwards.
Rocket Punch is one of Doomfist’s deadliest assets. Thanks to this skill, in Overwatch 2, Doomfist is one of the only heroes who can still stun enemies. Because Blizzard wants to encourage more fluid combat, the developer has left out abilities like Mei’s Freeze and Cassidy’s Flash Bang, so difficulties happen more often.
However, Doomfist is a special case because this ability is so inherent in his personality. Hitting an enemy does up to 50 damage and if you ram it into a wall it can deal another 30 damage on top of that.
Some tips and tricks for this ability:
- You can stop some stragglers like Thames Moria by punching the heroes.
- Rocket Punch can be strengthened by Power Block.
- Rocket Punch can knock down Ashe’s BOB for 2 seconds.
- Rocket Punch can be canceled by activating the ability again or by using another one.
Ability: Power Block
Describe: Blocks critical damage and powers up Rocket Punch
In Overwatch 2, Doomfist’s Power Block is his answer to tanks with shields. While this ability won’t help the rest of his team much, unless you can hide behind him, it does give Doomfist some protection.
The positive side of the defensive attribute is that it can also be used offensively. If heroes decide to shoot a Power Block, they will charge this ability and make Doomfist’s Power Punch even more deadly.
Some tips and tricks for this ability:
- This ability is best used while retreating from battles.
- After you mitigate 100 or more damage, Power Punch’s cooldown is reduced.
- Power Block can be canceled by activating one more ability.
Passive ability: the best defense
Describe: Doomfist causes a temporary health boost when it deals ability damage.
When used directly in Overwatch 2, Doomfist can become unkillable. When you land a Rocket Punch or a Seismic Slam, you get 35 extra health along with an additional 75 health if you kill an enemy with your final meteor hit.
Some tips and tricks for this passive ability:
- After one second, the extra health starts to degrade at three health per second, and doing more damage will reset this clock.
Final: Meteor Strike
Describe: Doomfist leaps into the sky and then crashes to the ground dealing massive damage.
Meteor Strike is a fast-paced and deadly addition to Doomfist’s skills. Activating at 0.5 seconds is one of the fastest alarms in Overwatch 2. However, this finale’s duration lasts three seconds (or 1.5 if you manage to land on an enemy) which means it’s very easy to get out of range.
Some tips and tricks for this ultimate goal:
- Doomfist cannot intercept targets while in this form, nor can it take damage.
- Meteor Strike cleans out most negative effects and removes abilities like Tracer’s Pulse Bomb.
- This finale enables a Rocket Punch upon landing.
Overwatch 2 Doomfist: gameplay breakdown
In Overwatch 2, Doomfist has completely overhauled his role and abilities. His character has transformed from a DPS Champion in the original Overwatch to a tank hero in Overwatch 2. We haven’t seen a shift like this since Symettra’s transition from support to DPS. But, unlike this hero, most of Doomfist’s abilities changed with this move.
For those who played Doomfist when he was a DPS hero, you may want to go back to old habits and use this hero as a prick character. This character is best used to get into battles and quickly disengage from them, separate the enemy team, and try to capture supports in the back line.
However, in Overwatch 2, Doomfist’s role is much more complex and team-oriented. Instead of escaping to the far corners of the map, as the only tank in your team, you have to skirt around the front lines as much as possible. While you’ll never be a Reinhardt who can be idle on the front lines, slowly pushing the enemy team away with your shield, Doomfist can still be front and center in battles that distract enemy heroes.
