In Overwatch 2, Baptiste is adapting in every sense of the word. He can snag an attacking boost with his ultra-aggressive end or save every player on his team with his Field of Immortality. No matter which side of Biotic Launcher you’re on, this support hero is the one to watch.
Baptiste’s abilities allow you to switch between dealing high damage and supporting your team with heals. These skills force enemy heroes to think twice before engaging the war-torn medic into battle.
For his opponents, the former Combat Medic Talon has one of the most frustrating abilities. In Overwatch 2, Baptiste can self-heal and use his Immortality Field to protect his team from all incoming damage for five seconds. An important tool to save yourself and your teammates from the extreme enemy.
Like some of the other heroes in Overwatch 2, Baptiste has a high skill ceiling due to his strike abilities and offensive Biotic Launcher. This support hero can heal his team while dealing massive damage to his enemies. This dual role means that mastering his playing style can be incredibly rewarding, no matter how few kind words may be lying your way. So let’s take a look at what makes this processor so effective.
Overwatch 2 Baptiste
Overwatch 2 Baptiste: Story and background
Baptiste is known as a generous doctor who recently dedicated his life to helping those in need and victims of war around the world. However, it wasn’t always as cute as it is today.
Hailing from Haiti, this medic first made a name for himself in the trenches working for the notorious terrorist organization Talon. This criminal gang has a list of many well-known heroes. From a former Overwatch operative to the newest omnic tank on the block, Ramattra, Baptiste has many comrades from this life of crime.
Having been led into this immoral life by the promise of easy riches, Baptiste slowly begins to realize how much harm he has been doing and how many innocent people he has put in harm’s way. This resulted in the support champion having a change of heart and leaving Talon for good.
Overwatch 2 Baptiste: Abilities
Primary Fire: Bio Launcher
Describe: A three-round machine gun that can deal damage to enemies and heal allies.
This is a striking weapon due to the lack of a time delay when the bullets are fired and the fact that they travel in a straight line like a laser. In Overwatch 2, Baptiste’s Biotic Launcher also allows for headshots, which means you can take on all of your challenges, whether it’s a terrifying airborne Pharah or an aggressively swinging Cassidy.
An alternative to the Biotic Launcher shoots healing balls that act as arc projectiles. They do not travel in a straight line, and there is a time delay. You can send these orbs on right click on your mouse (or right trigger if you’re playing on console) to treat allies. A direct hit will gain 70 health, while a healing blast repercussion will only give 50.
Some tips and tricks to note about this gun:
- Healing orbs will flow through allies at full health, making it easier to restore health in a crowd.
- You cannot heal yourself with this weapon, so it is necessary to monitor your health bar.
Ability: Regenerative Blast
Describe: Activate this ability to instantly heal yourself and nearby allies.
Rest assured, in Overwatch 2, Baptiste can heal himself. The Regen Burst will provide those with less than 50% HP with 100 health plus 50 within five seconds and those with more than 50% HP will give 50 health instantly and 50 within five seconds. This can be an instant game-changer for intense fights where everyone is gathered in a room or around an objective.
Some tips and tricks to note about this ability:
- Healing begins immediately and not after the animation is complete, which means hacking or dying cannot stop this ability.
- Due to the incredibly long 15-second cooldown, it’s only a good idea to use this ability when you and your team are on their last legs.
Ability: Immortality Domain
Describe: You can throw a device that prevents allies from dying within a certain radius.
We’ve already talked a little bit about the Field of Immortality. It’s hard not to, considering it’s Baptiste’s most famous ability and one of the most frustrating skills in Overwatch 2. Once the disk is placed on the ground, it will rise above the team, acting like a halo and providing a safe space within a small radius. As long as everyone is close to each other, it is large enough to involve the entire team.
In Overwatch 2, Baptiste’s immortality device is so powerful it can save you from a close-up D.Va The ultimate bomb. That’s pretty cool, considering their self-destruct usually means instant death to anything within a 20-meter radius.
However, while this device can make you immortal, it is not. The Immortality Field has 150 HP but can be destroyed instantly with Sombra’s Hack ability.
Some tips and tricks to note about this ability:
- The Immortality Field will instantly remove the effect of Anna’s Bio Bomb.
- The Field of Immortality arc matches the Biotic Launcher’s health bombs, so once you’ve mastered one, the other will come naturally.
Passive Ability: Exo Boots
Describe: Hold crouch to jump higher
By holding crouching, in Overwatch 2, Baptiste can charge a jump of up to 9.1 meters at full strength. This can help the Baptiste escape from difficult situations or allow him to participate in diving formations consisting of a team that can easily scale vertical buildings and quickly abandon battles.
Some tips and tricks to note about this ability:
- It is important to note that a passive ability means that the hero can use this skill at any time without cooldown.
- This power effectively allows Baptiste to reach hard-to-reach locations and excellent points to heal your team at a safe distance.
Final: Matrix Amplification
Describe: The array provides a window that will multiply the damage and heal projectiles fired through it.
This power-up window will last up to 10 seconds and amplifies projectiles from both sides of the array, which means you can move around to ensure targets can’t easily escape. However, in Overwatch 2, Baptiste can’t amplify melee-based projectiles like Junker Queen’s Whip Shot or Roadhog’s Chain Hook.
This finale is a little out of the ordinary for a support roster. Whereas all other Support Heroes have ultimatums that focus primarily on healing teammates, in Overwatch 2 Baptiste ultimately promotes and supports offensive attacks.
Another offensive support that can help the entire team is Kiriko, Kitsune Rush. This comparison illustrates once again how influential Baptiste’s gameplay will be in the future of Overwatch 2, as Kiriko is now the mainstay of what developer Blizzard expects future support heroes to look like.
Some tips and tricks to note about this ultimate:
- This ultimate can be deadly when used with the right combination of attacks. Whether it’s from Soldier 76’s Ultactical Visor of Bastion when in turret form, you should always look forward to working with DPS heroes who have rapid-fire and ranged weapons.
- Before deploying the matrix, you can change its orientation by pressing the end key again.
Overwatch 2 Baptiste: gameplay breakdown
In Overwatch 2, Baptise is a support hero with a high skill cap. This means that it is difficult to master, mainly due to its ability to switch from healing to damage at any moment.
Like Ana in Overwatch 2, Baptiste is also a hero thanks to his Biotic Launcher, which can fire bullets in three-burst rounds using a scope that instantly strikes in a straight line. This means that he is relatively effective against any hero he encounters.
One of Baptiste’s best known abilities is the Immortality Field, while this was a skill unique to Overwatch. However, Overwatch 2 introduces Kiriko, who mimics this ability by protecting Suzu. This is important because it shows how incredibly useful this power can be in the sequel.
This ability is also useful now there is less tank and less armor in the field. Frustratingly, there is far less protection available at any given moment. If the time is right, Baptiste’s Field of Eternity can negate alarms and save the lives of your entire team. All of this proves that Baptiste is quickly becoming one of the most effective mainstays in Overwatch 2.
