Looking for a show that combines the best of Sherlock Holmes, Ghostbusters, and And Doctor who? Netflix might have you covered with Lockwood and Co.
The upcoming supernatural thriller series, which comes from Joe Cornish (Attack the Block, Ant-Man) will be released exclusively on Netflix on January 27th, so it’s time for a proper look at what Lockwood and Co. is all about. Helpfully, the best streaming service in the world just released the first trailer for the series, which you can check out below.
You can see why we consider Lockwood and Co. A combination of the three popular franchises we mentioned above, right? It’s a detective style, London-based production (Sherlock Holmes); centered around a group of underdog rebels trying to save the world (Doctor Who); The villains in this piece are all kinds of ghosts and ghouls (ghost hunters). Throw in its positioning as a Gen Z TV series, and we’d be surprised if Lockwood and Co. didn’t deliver. It does well among the 16- to 25-year-old age group when it launches later this month.
In a press release, Netflix provided more context on Lockwood and Co.’s overarching plot: “In a world plagued by ghosts, where giant corporations employ psychic teens to battle the supernatural, only one firm operates without adult supervision, and its name is Lockwood & Co.
Run by Anthony Lockwood, a rebellious young businessman haunted by his mysterious past, his brilliant but eccentric sidekick George, and a hugely talented newly arrived girl named Lucy, this maverick trio is about to unravel a terrifying mystery that will change the course of history.
Netflix hopes Lockwood and Co. Similar performance to Wednesday, its megahit TV show The Addams Family which has been renewed for a second season, in place of The Iruates, another Gen Z supernatural (and Sherlock-inspired) series that was canceled after one season in May 2021. Otherwise, Lockwood and Co. From a similar fate to 1899’s Inside Job, The Chair, which is already being processed by Netflix this year after one season.
Fortunately, the main staff of Lockwood and Co. From a number of great hitters, who should stand in good stead with the viewers. Cornish joins William MacGregor (His Dark Materials, Poldark) and Catherine Morshead (Pennyworth, Downton Abbey) in the director’s chair. Meanwhile, Nira Park (Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho) and Rachael Prior (Attack the Block, The World’s End) are producing the series alongside Cornish.
Ruby Stokes (Bridgerton, As Dusk Falls) stars as Lucy Carlyle alongside Ali Hajji Hashmati (Holby City, Bad Education) and newcomer Cameron Chapman, who plays George Karim and Anthony Lockwood respectively. The series’ supporting cast has big names too, including Ivanno Jeremiah (A Discovery of Witches, Humans) and Jack Bandera (Cop, The Witcher).
