Soholaunch is a self-hosted website builder that includes a suite of content management and website creation tools. Despite recent changes to its operations and being a bit outdated, Soholaunch is still an easy-to-use option worth considering.
In this guide, we take a closer look at building your own simple business website with Soholaunch. Work through the following steps to get your site online in no time!
How to create your own website with Soholaunch: Preparation
Soholaunch is a self-hosted solution. Before you can start creating your own website, you will need to purchase web hosting. This provides the processing power and infrastructure needed to run SohoLaunch. There are many hosting providers to choose from. We used Hostinger (Opens in a new tab)Industry-leading option at very competitive prices.
Most hosting platforms offer some kind of one-click installer (such as Softaculous (Opens in a new tab) or Installatron.com (Opens in a new tab)) will install scripts like Soholaunch in just a few minutes. If you are using Hostinger, you can take advantage of its Auto Installer, which enables you to install Soholaunch and many other programs with just a few clicks.
You can find the automatic installer on your hPanel dashboard. Just follow the instructions to install Soholaunch. Complete installation guide (Opens in a new tab) It can be found in the Hostinger Support Center.
Step 1: Add pages
When you open Soholaunch for the first time, you will be given the option to use the Website Wizard to get your site up and running. The first step is to decide which pages you want to add to your site.
There are several options available, and each page you select will be created automatically. All sites have a home page, even if you don’t specify any other pages.
Step 2: Enter the location information
Then, the Soholaunch installation wizard asks for a website email address, website address, and some basic business information. None of this is necessary, but it’s usually a good idea to add at least basic information.
Step 3: Customize your page content
Once you’ve gone through the initial setup wizard, we recommend customizing your page content a bit more. To do this, head over to the Pages tab and hit the edit button on the page you want to customize.
Soholaunch uses a very unique editor. It involves adding new blocks to a grid and customizing each one individually. This may be a little confusing at first, but it is actually very effective.
You can also edit page properties. Some of the things you can change include the page title, page template, keywords, and description. We suggest taking the time to do this, as high-quality descriptions and titles will help you get higher search engine rankings.
Step 4: Try a new template
Under the Theme Manager tab, you’ll find a selection of themes that you can use to change the overall look of your site. Most of the themes included are quite old, but it is possible to upload your own template if you wish. There’s even a template generator that lets you put together a truly personal design.
Find the features that are included in each template. Listed to the right of the screen, some designs have more features than others.
Next, we suggest customizing your menu design. Under the Navigation menu tab, you will find a lot of settings that enable you to change the menu layout, order, and display settings. You can create submenus if needed, and custom menu links are available if you want to link to an external email address or website.
Step 6: Add accessories
The Soholaunch Add-ons library contains several plugins that you can use to add additional functionality to your website. We suggest taking a look to see if any of them help. However, you should be aware that the plug-ins have not been updated for more than five years.
It is also possible to create and load custom plugins if required.
By now you should have a pretty decent website up and running. Under the Advanced feature set heading, there are a few specialized tools that you may find useful. For example, you can add a shopping cart to your site if you want to sell products, add FAQs via FAQ Manager, and take care of your blog via Blog Manager.
You can also access website backups, traffic statistics, and more via the Administrative features menu.
